Does your back feel tight and stiff from sitting hunched over a desk or computer all day? Are you unable to stand or drive for extended periods of time? Would you like to be able to live your life without discomfort performing routine, daily activities?

If you have ever experienced lower back pain or stiffness, you are not alone: back pain is one of the most common reasons people see a doctor or miss days at work and it is reported that each year 20% of the population consult their GP about muscular skeletal issues. Roughly 80% of all adults experience an episode of back pain in their lifetime. Our modern sedentary lifestyles mean that many of us, especially as we age, live with chronic stiffness and pain.

But if this is you, know it doesn’t have to be that way – and a new course starting at Sensate on September 30 may help.

This five-week course will use a combination of yoga, strengthening and mobility work to help ease any current stiffness and help create core strength and spinal flexibility. You’ll build a strong and resilient spine and improve overall back health – whatever your age. The movements are designed to be simple and accessible, with no prior yoga experience required.

As a yoga teacher who has had personal experience of severe back pain, in this course I will share techniques that have helped me personally. 

There will also be a focus on rest and relaxation, a key part in the healing and renewal process.

Gentle Yoga: Focus on Back Health begins 30 September and runs every Tuesday 5.45-6.45pm at Sensate Spa.

Five soothing practices to help you settle: A FREE COURSE

Unwind: A Place to Land at the End of Your Day is a FREE series of micro practices in which I guide you through a recorded series of short sequences to help your body soften, your mind settle and your heart feel held. 

Practices include a soothing breathwork practice, guided relaxation and some gentle movement patterns. Nothing complicated. No experience is needed, just a willingness to slow down and tend to yourself with care at the end of your day.

No props are required for any of these practices, you can simply follow along listening to the guided audios. And there there’s no screen to distract you, only my soothing voice. Just 5-10 minutes is all you need.

You might even find the Unwind series becomes an integral part of your evening or bedtime routine.
